Good-luck Vegetable

Bok Choy in china is considered a good-luck vegetable. Its long, white stalks and dark green leaves resemble bamboo, and because of this, it’s often seen as a symbol of prosperity.

One of the best things about bok choy is its versatility. You can use it in soups, stir-fries, salads, and even sauté it on its own as a side dish.

History of Stir-Fried Bok Choy

Stir-frying is a cooking technique that originated in China. It is a quick and efficient way to cook food, as well as a way to preserve its nutrients. Stir-frying involves cooking food in a small amount of oil over high heat. The food is constantly moving or stirring, so it doesn’t stick to the pan and burn.

How to Stir-Fry Bok Choy

Stir-frying bok choy is a quick and easy way to cook it. Simply cut the bok choy into thin slices, and then sauté it in a hot pan with a little oil. You can add in other vegetables, meat, or tofu if you like. Stir-fry until the bok choy is wilted and tender, about 3-5 minutes. Serve immediately.

Stir-frying in Wok vs Pan

Woks and pans are both popular options for stir-frying. Stir-frying in a wok is said to be the traditional method, as it allows for more surface area and even heat distribution. This ensures that the food cooks evenly and doesn’t stick to the pan.

Pans are a more common option in Western kitchens, as they are less expensive and easier to find. If you are using a pan, it’s important to use one that is large enough so that the food can spread out. This will help prevent it from sticking and burning.

Stir-Frying Bok Choy Tips

  • Cut the bok choy into even slices for best results.
  • If you are adding other vegetables, meat, or tofu to your stir-fry, cut them into small pieces so that they cook evenly.
  • Stir-frying is a quick cooking method, so have all of your ingredients prepped and ready to go before you start cooking.
  • If you are using a pan, make sure it is large enough so that the food can spread out.
  • Use a high-quality oil with a high smoke point, such as olive oil or vegetable oil. Avoid using butter or margarine.
  • Stir the food often, so that it doesn’t stick to the pan and burn.
  • Serve immediately for best results.

Ingredients

  • 3 bunch 3 bunch Bok Choy

  • 1 medium 1 medium White Onion (sliced)

  • 4 clove 4 clove Garlic (minced)

  • 80 grams 80 grams Dried Shrimp

  • 3 medium 3 medium Eggs

  • 1 tsp 2 g Chili Flakes

  • 1 tbsp 14.79 ml Oyster Sauce

  • 1 tbsp 14.79 ml Light Soy Sauce

  • 2 tbsp 29.57 ml Canola Oil

  • Ground Black Pepper to taste

Directions

  • Clean bok choy very well. Cut off the tough ends and get rid of any leaves that have turned yellow. If they are very big, cut each stem in half along its length.
  • In a frying pan or wok, heat the oil over high to medium heat. Cook the eggs until they are soft, and then put them on a plate.
  • Sauté onion, garlic, dried shrimp, and chili flakes in the same pan. For 1 minute or until the food smells good.
  • Then add the Bok Choy’s white parts. When the white parts of the Bok Choy are soft, add the green parts. So, the green parts won’t get overcooked.
  • Add oyster sauce, light soy sauce, and ground black pepper, and stir fry.
  • Bring the softly cooked egg back and mix it in. Stir fry for another 1–2 minutes with the lid off.
  • Quickly plate the food and serve it. Enjoy!
